Meeting with Jen Kramer!

After meeting with Jen today, there were a few items that I have added to my to-do list:

  • Narrow down the target audience
    • We discussed the need to target a more specific group of users, so the first book can be written, narrated and illustrated with more definition.
    • We agreed that targeting K – 1st grade students will be ideal as they are still mastering the skill of reading and thus can further benefit from these interactive stories (using voice, text, audio, clicks).
  • Review rubrics to give more weight for the most important and relevant tasks.
    • Clear some definitions, conditions, etc. so the grading is clear to everyone.
  • Define and organize user testing with appropriate age group kids.
    • Are they able to say the required commands?
    • Can the computer recognize their speech properly?
    • Research what kind of words to use for commands.
  • Voice command activation
    • There was a concern that the narration of the book could trigger some navigation commands, such as having the word “next” in the story and having the same command “next” to advance pages in the book. This could trigger the book to advance to the next page unintentionally. One solution would be to only activate voice commands when there is a pause of the narration, so the user would need to wait until one section ends, to be able to use “go back” or “go to menu” or “next”, etc.
